Auditions for SP2 will start on March of '09 daw. Wonder what month it will premiere on tv.

And I've noticed, parang hindi na ganoon kainit ang mga castaways ng S1. Di na sila ganoon ka visible sa TV.

Even while in the US, I got hooked with Survivor Philippines (SP). Thanks to the Internet and very useful links from different sources. SP is very unique in the sense that (moral) values played a very important part in the game. In the US version, people just played the game without being particular about their values and character. It is different with Pinoys - values remained important and somehow, the winner JC, was able to win while maintaining a good balance of skill, strategy and, of course, values.

For me, however, the most memorable thing about SP is Marlon. He played the villain, the devil, the one Castaway everybody hated. He made the show very exciting and interesting to watch. Other interesting Castaways are Nanay Zita, Charisse and Kiko.

I'm hoping that there will be a season 2 for SP. Visit the official site - survivorphilippines.tv.

Survivor Philippines is the Philippine version of the reality television series Survivor. It is hosted by television personality Paolo Bediones. At the first audition in Davao, Bediones revealed that the prize money would be the largest in the history of reality shows in the Philippines: in addition to the title of Sole Survivor, the contestant who lasts the longest will also win 3,000,000 pesos (around US$65,000).

Auditions were held in six Philippine cities in May 2008. From these auditions, 18 contestants (up from the originally announced 16) were selected to participate on the show in June 2008. The show was shot in Ko Tarutao, the same island where Survivor: Thailand took place, from July to August, 2008.

This series premiered on September 15, 2008 and ended on December 12. While the show was aired on a daily basis rather than once a week, all elements of the Survivor franchise were otherwise present. The names of the tribes were derived from the Thai language: Naak (นาค), Jarakay (จระเข้) and Chalam (ฉลาม), meaning snake, crocodile and shark respectively. The tribes were initially divided by gender, with Jarakay composed of the nine male contestants, and Naak of the females. On Day 19, the two tribes were merged into Chalam, composed of the ten remaining castaways. The choice of the merge name was done beforehand by the producers, another deviation from many Survivor shows wherein the members of the new merged tribe make up their new tribal name.

Also unique is the use of theme music for the British version composed by Russ Landau, who made the Ancient Voices series of theme scores for the American version. It has further been re-arranged and added with tribal and ethnic flavors by local Filipino composer Diwa de Leon and chant vocals were performed by Evan Britanico. The song Pure Shores by All Saints was also used in the show as background music.

Another new twist used in this franchise is a Cursed Pearl that is roughly the size of a standard billiard ball. During the merge stage, the person voted out, before having his/her torch snuffed out, will receive the pearl and give it to one of the remaining castaways. That castaway will receive one vote in the following Tribal Council. In case the Cursed Pearl is lost, the holder would receive two votes. The pearl is called in-show as a figurative "Black Pearl," although it is actually silver. An equally new twist is the White Pearl, which is given the same way as the Cursed Pearl. But whoever holds the White Pearl will have one vote subtracted from the count in that contestant's favor in the next Tribal Council, should at least one such vote comes up. The White Pearl is somewhat compared to other hidden immunity items in different Survivor shows.

Also, for the first time in a Survivor franchise, a popularity poll for viewers was launched in which they could vote through SMS which of the Final Two should become the Sole Survivor. This vote would count as the ninth jury vote; the winner of the poll would receive this vote to his credit in the final tally.

The season was won by John Carlo "JC" Tiuseco, defeating Robert Vincent "Rob" Sy, 7-2, with the seventh vote resulting from him winning the popularity vote mentioned above. JC's win was already leaked months earlier, however, when a showbiz-oriented website published the alleged results of the Final Tribal Council on October 2008 after two of the show's staff were overheard in a coffee shop about the show's outcome. Bediones labeled that website's report as a spoiler when that article first appeared.
